Wyrm is a fictional character in the Wild Cards series of books.
History[]
Wyrm's abilities made him an ideal recruit for the Shadow Fist Society, and he could often be found operating within the ranks of the Immaculate Egrets as a tracker and enforcer. It was in this capacity that he first came into contact with Daniel Brennan, the vigilante known as Yeoman. Brennan caught Wyrm and a few other Egrets trafficking drugs with the aid of a singularity shifter. The pair fought until Brennan was inadvertently teleported from the scene by the alien device after falling victim to Wyrm's poisonous bite.
Later, Wyrm was on Yeoman's short list of suspects for the murder of information broker Chrysalis, but the joker had an alibi for his whereabouts at the time. He promised the vigilante reprisals for intruding on his business once again.
Wyrm finally met his end, though not at the hands of Yeoman nor any other crimefighter. Instead, he was killed by fellow Shadow Fist operative Fadeout. The joker was attempting to avenge their employer's apparent murder and mistakenly thought Fadeout was responsible.
Wild Card Traits[]
Wyrm was changed by the wild card virus into a somewhat reptilian joker-ace. Despite his thin build, he is deceptively strong, and his flexible body is also capable of quite fast and agile movements when necessary. Wrym is said to fight with the strength of ten men.
Wyrm has a pair of fangs that can deliver a venomous bite. The venom is a potent neurotoxin that causes rapid paralysis, and often death.
Wyrm's olfactory sense has been greatly enhanced. By flicking his tongue out he can taste the air and determine elements of his environment, or scents of people who have been in the vicinity. By tasting the skin of a woman who was wearing clothing worn by Dr. Tachyon years earlier he was able to detect Tachyon's scent on the clothing. This trait was once used by Yeoman against him, when the assassin coated Wyrm's tongue in a very spicy mustard, causing the latter so much pain it rendered him effectively out of combat for some time.
Appearance[]
Wyrm is a joker-ace with a scale-less reptilian appearance. Tall and thin, he has no hair, and his nose is a mild bump on his face with two nostril holes. Wyrm's tongue is a long and forked affair that can extend to taste the air. He has been known to employ this in close combat simply for the surprise it can cause when an opponent attempts to wrestle with him.
Personality[]
Wyrm is a remorseless career criminal whose only real loyalty is to his boss Kien. Willing to kill anyone who gets in his way, Wyrm has a particularly strong antipathy for Yeoman.
