Walter Jon Williams (Duluth, October 15, 1953) is an American writer known primarily as an author of science fiction novels.

He is an eclectic author, who has successfully dealt with various aspects of the science fiction genre, ranging from cyberpunk to space opera, from humorous farce to alternative history to science fantasy, finding a congenial form especially in the short novel.

Biography[]

Williams studied at the University of New Mexico where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1975.

He made his debut in fiction in the early eighties, writing with the name Jon Williams the series of naval adventures with a historical setting Privateers and Gentlemen, at the basis of the eponymous role-playing game by Fantasy Games Unlimited, for which he draws up the game rules himself.

His first science fiction novel is Ambassador of Progress (1984). In 1990 Williams will then even write a sequel to a Zelazny novel.
