Sprout is a fictional character from the Wild Cards series of books.
Sprout is the mentally handicapped daughter of Mark Meadows. She is the center of Mark's universe and was also the center of two custody battles with Mark's ex-wife, Kimberly Anne Gooding nee Cordayne.
After Mark lost his second hearing, Sprout became a ward of the state. Mark, with the help of the jumper, K.C. Strange and the Takisian hybrid Durg at’ Morakh, manages to rescue her from the Reeves Diagnostic and Development Institute.
After that, Sprout is left with friends at a commune in New Mexico, while Mark goes off to Takis with Dr. Tachyon and Jay Ackroyd.
When Mark returns, he finds that he wanted on drug charges as well as for kidnapping Sprout. He again leaves her, this time with her grandfather, retired General Marc Meadows.

Appearance
Sprout is a beautiful, willowy young girl. She has inherited her mother's figure and her father's blonde hair and blue eyes. Although she is mentally handicapped, she displays none of the other physical attributes of Down syndrome or other common mental disorders, indicating that her condition might be related to her parents' drug use or the wild card virus.
