James McTate, nicknamed Slim Jim, is an NYPD detective working the Fort Freak Precinct in Jokertown. A joker, McTate is a Detective First Class partnered with veteran detective Tenry Fong.
History[]
McTate was a policeman in Phoenix, Arizona when his wild card turned. An occupational therapist suggested that transferring to New York would make his adjustment easier. Unfortunately proved to be untrue, as he was too much like a nat to fully fit in with jokers, and too much of a joker to always pass as a nat.
McTate and his partner were handed a case to investigate a series of unusual thefts dubbed the "Magpie Thefts", so called because they usually involved notable objects of value snatched seemingly at random from all over the city, and the perpetrator of these crimes they dubbed the Magpie. McTate made several breakthroughs in the case, and when he finally spotted the culprit in the act of stealing he tailed her to her residence. Fellow detective Driscoll had likewise made his way to her location, and together the pair of them apprehended the old woman. After she was hauled before the court, McTate found himself grudgingly assigned to act as her parole officer, as well becoming her unwitting tenant.
Wild Card Traits[]
McTate can cause his body, and objects he is carrying, to slim down to an almost two dimensional state, allowing him to slip all or part of his body through small spaces. In this manner he can also cause fairly mundane objects to become razor-sharp weapons if need be.
Appearance[]
McTate was a very mild joker. He is tall, but not inhumanly so, at about seven feet. He is also very, very thin even without the use of his powers. However, his thinness is also not inhumanly so and McTate is regularly mistaken for an unusually tall nat.
Personality[]
McTate is a thoughtful young man well suited to the deductive role of a police detective.
