Queen Margaret is a fictional character in the Wild Cards series of books.

History[]

Princess Margaret became Queen of England following the death of her father, George, in 1952. Her elder sister, Princess Elizabeth, had been first in line for the crown, but had died under unrevealed circumstances that many attributed the wild card virus. Even before Margaret's coronation, she found herself called by duty in the wake of the Great Smog, an event that saw the deaths of many as well as the surprise return of Captain Flint who had saved countless lives during the event. Captain Flint's heroics had effectively demonstrated the value of ace powers, and so Margaret, with the help of Prime Minister Winston Churchill tasked Captain Flint and Alan Turing with the capture of the notorious ace thief Spring-heeled Jack. Their efforts were successful and the young Queen Margaret saw in the creation of England's new team of wild card powered heroes, the Order of the Silver Helix.

On her death bed in 2020, Queen Margaret summoned Alan Turing to her bedside to tell him of a family secret. Her sister had given birth to a joker child in 1948 and the boy had been spirited away. This raised the possibility that the true heir might still be alive somewhere in England and Margaret, knowing that neither of her own two sons were suited for the crown, hoped that Turing might be able to uncover the truth and save the monarchy. Unburdened from the secret she'd kept hidden for more than seventy years, Queen Margaret passed away the following day.
