Professor Silverberg was a brilliant and eccentric aeronautical scientist, creator of the JB-1, the world's first jet plane. He was also the mentor and father figure of Jetboy. Professor Silverberg built the JB-1 in 1939, with the help of mechanic Linc Traynor and their young apprentice, Bobby Tomlin, who would later become famous as Jetboy.
Nazi spies discovered about the plane and tried to kidnap Silverberg while Jetboy was away with the plane. Silverberg fought bravely and was murdered by the Nazis. Jetboy then used the experimental aeroplane to avenge Silverberg's death, gunning down their escaping vehicle. Silverberg's death was the initial motivation for Jetboy to go fight the Nazis in World War II.
