Paul "Pretty Paulie" O'Nealy is a fictional character in the Wild Cards series of books. He is the main vocalist of the gothic rock band The Jokertown Boys.

History[]

Pretty Paulie grew up in an orphanage along with several other boys with whom he later formed The Jokertown Boys. Struck by the wild card virus, Paulie drew the joker and was afflicted with a rubbery elastic skeleton. Without any rigidity to his form, Paulie was forced to turn to crutches and a body support frame in order to move around, and this drew the unkind nickname of "Tiny Tim". One saving grace of his elastic form was his increased vocal range, and this served him well on stage as The Jokertown Boys' main vocalist.

Wild Card Traits[]

Paulie has a rubbery skeleton that is far too pliable to support his weight, forcing him to resort to artificial means for body support. He can stretch to abnormally tall proportions, easily doubling his normal height, provided that his supports are lengthened to that extent. His skeleton is able to absorb and re-release kinetic energy to some degree, enabling him to bounce a little when he isn't wearing his supports. One advantage that he does have is his vocal cords can stretch well beyond human norms granting an increased vocal range with an extra two octaves.

Appearance[]

Paulie is noticeably crippled and can only move around with the aid of crutches.

Personality[]

Paulie approaches the world with a cheerful bravado and dark wit. Of all the Joketown Boys, Paulie is the one most prone to making wisecracks.

Trivia[]

  • Paulie has entered, and won, the annual "Whip it out" contest at Freakers.
