Marc Balsam is a minor character in the Wild Cards series of books. He is a descendent of Black John Balsam and a leader of the Egyptian Freemasons.
History[]
Marc Balsam was a descendant of Black John Balsam and inheritor of his ancestor's Shakti device. He grew up in a life absorbed with the occult and even went so far as to publish articles in a magazine. Following in Black John's footsteps, Marc took up the mantle of leadership in the Egyptian Freemasons. It was in this role that he felt the psychic intrusion of Fortunato in his mind, operating through a new initiate at the Mason's temple. He alerted the others causing the Astronomer to intervene and completely wipe the woman's mind. In revenge Fortunato tracked them to their temple and ruptured a gass pipe in the building, destroying it and killing Marc Balsam in the process.
Appearance[]
Neat and sophisticated looking, Balsam wears suits and glasses. He is described as looking like a banker, but tanned as if he was no stranger to being outdoors.
Trivia[]
- Balsam's death was partially orchestrated by the Astronomer. The Astronomer wanted him out of the way in order to take control of the Masons for himself.
