Detective, Second Grade, Harvey Kant is a fictional character from the Wild Cards series of books.

History[]

Kant was born in 1941, and became a joker on the first Wild Card Day.

He was a buddy of John F.X. Black, and for that reason Captain Ellis distrusted him. He has won three citations for bravery, has been shot twice, and has shot a dozen people in the line of duty, killing several of them.

During the 1980s, Kant became a "mount" of the parasitic joker Ti Malice. Addicted to the direct stimulation of the brain's pleasure center caused by the tiny joker's bite, Kant would do anything commanded of him and was quite dangerous if his master or his own access to his master's "kiss" was threatened. After Ti Malice was teleported to another dimension by Jay Ackroyd, Kant, like the other mounts, presumably underwent and eventually overcame the powerful withdrawal from Malice's addictive bite.

Wild Card Traits[]

The wild card virus left Harvey Kant with the appearance of a lizard. He is fast and strong, although not outside of human range. His scaly hide is tough and grants him a moderate level of resistance to harm. While not actually cold-blooded, Kant prefers warm weather and sleeps underneath a heat lamp.

Appearance[]

His body is hairless, brown in color, and scaled. He looks like a 5' 8" humanoid lizard. His eyes have nictating membranes and his teeth are sharp and pointy.

Personality[]

Kant is a tough, stand-up guy. With Black in charge he often stepped over the line, but now he generally toes it. He's not a dirty cop, but he sometimes ignores the legal niceties.

Trivia[]

  • Alternates playing good cop, bad cop with his partner Maseryk (depending on whether the perpetrator is a nat or a joker.)
  • He lives alone in Jokertown and doesn't socialize outside of the police fraternity.
