Doughboy is a fictional character in the Wild Cards series of books. He is a mentally retarded giant with metahuman strength and puffy dough-like flesh. He lives with Shiner in the rooming house owned by Jube the Walrus and the pair share a father and son relationship.
History[]
Doughboy was left abandoned in an alley behind a mask shop in the winter of 1970. By this time he was estimated to be about eleven or twelve years old and yet he only had the mind of a four-year-old. Shiner found him crying, took pity on him and took him home.
Years later the Swarm sent an infiltrator swarmling to kill an astronomer who had uncovered its location. The infiltrator looked similar to Doughboy, and so Doughboy was implicated in the crime and arrested. Further investigation revealed the truth, leading to his release, but the child-like joker had experienced a traumatic time locked in the police jails nonetheless.
Wild Card Traits[]
Doughboy is a joker with enhanced strength stemming from an increase in size and mass. His strength is enough that he accidentally rips the front door off the rooming house at least once a year. Doughboy is able to throw a 50kg manhole cover 20-30 yards.
Appearance[]
Doughboy is a large man with mushroom white skin and eyes like raisins sunk into rolls of fat.
Personality[]
Doughboy is mentally retarded and has the mind of a four-year-old child. The retardation might be natural, or it might have been the result of the wild card. He likes toy robots and cars, and toys that make noises, but usually breaks them within days. The toys he really likes, he breaks within hours. Doughboy is a familiar sight around Jokertown, but doesn't really know his way around. The jokers generally look out for him though and a helpful hand to guide him home when he gets lost is never far away.
Trivia[]
- Doughboy is a term to describe an American soldier in World War I, and dates back to the mid-to-late 1840's. For the character from Marvel Comics, see: Doughboy.
